In this blog, we are taking you further in understanding the fluids that come out from your vagina.

Why does your vagina discharge?

It's normal to have vaginal discharges. The flow may also be uneven and that too is normal. Your vagina protects and cleans itself by discharging these fluids. Sexual arousal, ovulation, stress, using birth control pills, heavy exercising, are some of the reasons for increased vaginal discharge, and there is nothing to worry about.

However, abnormal vaginal discharges occur due to some or the other infections.

Types of Bacterial Infections

Bacterial Vaginosis

This is a common bacterial infection, and results in increased vaginal discharge that has a fishy foul odor. However, in some cases, it produces no signs. Bacterial vaginosis is common in woman who have multiple sex partners or habitually receive oral sex.

Trichomoniasis

This infection is caused by a single-celled organism or a protozoa and results in a green or a yellow vaginal discharge that is accompanied with four odors. Sexual contact usually results in this infection, however, sharing bathing suits or towels can also lead to this infection. While some women experience zero symptoms, in other many cases, the itching, inflammation, and pain too are experienced.

Yeast Infection

This is a fungal infection that results in a thick white cheese-like discharge, and also brings along burning and itching sensations. Yeast is normally present in the vagina, and its excessive growth can lead to infection. Using antibiotics for more than 10 days, diabetes, stress, pregnancy, and birth control pills can increase your chances of getting a yeast infection.

Chlamydia and Gonorrhea

These are sexually transmitted infections and release cloudy, yellow, or greenish discharge. Thus, as you ensure to slip in sexy nighties for honeymoon, make sure to use protection during sexual intimacy.

Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

This infection is mostly spread by sexual contact. When bacteria spreads in the vagina and other reproductive organs, PID happens. It results in foul-smelling, heavy discharge.

Cervical cancer or HPV

The HPV infection occurs due to sexual contact, and can further lead to cervical cancer. In some cases, it might show zero symptoms, while in others, it may produce a brown or a bloody water-like discharge with a strong bad smell. An annual pep analysis can easily scan this cancer.

When to consult a doctor?

When your vagina discharges abnormal fluids accompanied with fatigue, augmented urination, abdominal pain, fever, and unexplainable weight loss, you need to see a doctor ASAP.

Do not unsee your vagina’s signals. Also, practice safe sex to protect yourself from STIs. Maintain your vaginal hygiene by letting it breathe, and switch to cotton panties or other fabric panties with cotton patches. Stay away from douches and vaginal cleansers.
